About ASTD Pittsburgh

The purpose of this professional society is to achieve a better utilization of the human ability and potential in business, industry, government, the professions and education by:

• Encouraging the participation and affiliation of individuals or groups concerned with specialized areas of activity or having interest in the broad field of human resources training and development.
• Ensuring that appropriate programs and services are available to meet the learning and professional growth needs of training and development practitioners, and of those human resource professional demonstrating interest in the training and development field.
• Providing a clearing house of information relevant to training and development and conducting liaisons with those organizations potentially capable of promoting the objectives of the Society.
• Encouraging, sponsoring or conducting appropriate research and ensuring the publication of results in training and development literature.
• Promoting an understanding that the training and development of human resources is a critical responsibility of management at all levels within an organization.
• Providing leadership in the field of human resources training and development by assisting managers in their effort to develop and maintain a competent work force.
